YouTube releases usage statistics for 7th birthday
YouTube, the Google-owned video sharing service, is celebrating its seventh birthday in style by releasing usage statistics to the world, highlighting how far the service has come since its inception.
According to thedrum.co.uk, one of YouTube's impressive statistics include the fact that 72 hours of video are uploaded to the site every single minute, equating to 61 Royal Wedding ceremonies.
Furthermore user uploads, such as home movies, amateur music videos and more, have more than doubled in the last two years, helping the site attract 4 billion clicks a day. Using the site from a smartphone also proved to be popular as the site claimed 600 million use mobiles to access the site every day last year, which could interest digital marketing professionals looking to capitalise on the site's traffic levels.
YouTube spokeswoman Zayna Aston, cited by metro.co.uk, commented on the milestone: "It's not just musicians and film-makers - ordinary people are putting their content online and reaching a global audience whose numbers can rival professionals.
"It's a fantastic platform and having access to a global audience can mean even niche video subjects can attract huge audiences," she added.
YouTube is one of the most popular sites in the world, with users watching over 3 billion hours worth of material a month.
