Tablet owners in the market for second device, claims report
New figures suggest that five million tablet owners will be in the market for a second device over the course of the next 12 months, reports The Telegraph.
According to predictions made by Deloitte, the market for tablets continues to grow and grow, with Asus, Sony and Samsung all making updates to their existing devices this year.
As such, Apple's stranglehold on the market looks set to loosen as more consumers look for alternative options in terms of build and software - which will contribute to an estimated £1.3 billion revenue in the tablet market in 2012.
Mobile marketing professionals will be interested to note that tablets are selling well, especially as the devices are used for checking news, browsing e-mails and shopping on m-commerce sites.
Jolyon Barker, global lead for Deloitte's Technology, Media and Telecommunications department, commented on the figures: "The tablet explosion has shown little sign of slowing down since hitting the market in 2010 and is set to take the mantle of the most rapid multiple market penetration in history.
"It is worth remembering that it took several decades after introduction for more than five per cent of households to have more than one car, phone, radio or TV," he added.
